Title: Security and privacy for emerging large-scale mobile systems
Abstract:
Consider emerging systems for participatory sensing (PS) and vehicular communication (VC): it is necessary to secure their operation as well as protect the privacy of their users. Security is necessary, for example, to control the access to PS tasks, or to ensure the authenticity of transportation safety VC messages. At the same time, PS and VC users should be rightfully concerned with their privacy: submission of sensed data, vehicle information broadcasting, or location-based queries, they all reveal sensitive user information. In this talk, we discuss security and privacy protection for PS and VC, two systems with commonalities. We focus primarily on recent results for PS, a novel architecture for security and privacy. We also connect to architectures and recent developments for VC, notably for credential management. If time permits, we briefly discuss (i) broader applicability of these ideas for PS and VC systems to protect location-based services, and (ii) how to verify and Sift data polluted by faulty insiders.
