Shake UP your city News : U.Porto – Best Portuguese university in scientific outputs
Universidade do Porto was considered the best university in Portugal in terms of scientific production. Being in 242nd place is the fruit of thirteen thousand publications. According to the 2013 ranking published by SCImago, U. Porto had climbed 27 places in comparison with the first edition.
In addition to Universidade do Porto, this list includes six other Portuguese universities - Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (273rd), Universidade de Lisboa (485th), Universidade de Coimbra (487th), Universidade de Aveiro (524th), Universidade Nova de Lisboa (612nd) and Universidade do Minho (632nd).
Portugal has 37 institutions - eight more than a year ago – on a list which includes 2,740 universities and research centres worldwide. Other institutions appear below the thousand ranking position.
In first place is still the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (France), with more than two hundred and fifteen thousand publications, followed by the China Academy of Science and the Russian Academy of Science. Harvard University (United States) and the Helmholtz Institute (Germany) complete the top 5 of the 2013 SCImago list.
This is the fourth time SCImago has produced this ranking, based on quantitative data relating to publications and quotations from scientific articles.
